At home, he constructed such devices as models of planes, a radio-controlled model boat and a barbed-wire telegraph system to a friend's house a half-mile away. His best subjects were science and mathematics. Shannon showed an inclination towards mechanical and electrical things. Most of the first 16 years of Shannon's life were spent in Gaylord, where he attended public school, graduating from Gaylord High School in 1932. Shannon's family was active in their Methodist Church during his youth. was a descendant of New Jersey settlers, while Mabel was a child of German immigrants. His mother, Mabel Wolf Shannon (1890–1945), was a language teacher, who also served as the principal of Gaylord High School. (1862–1934), was a businessman and for a while, a judge of probate in Gaylord. The Shannon family lived in Gaylord, Michigan, and Claude was born in a hospital in nearby Petoskey. His mathematical theory of information became very well cited and laid the foundation for the field of information theory. Shannon contributed to the field of cryptanalysis for national defense of the United States during World War II, including his fundamental work on codebreaking and secure telecommunications. Īs a 21-year-old master's degree student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he wrote his thesis demonstrating that electrical applications of Boolean algebra could construct any logical numerical relationship. LOL I couldn’t help it! Seemed weird to say “Your." A Mathematical Theory of Communication"Ī Symbolic Analysis of Relay and Switching CircuitsĬlaude Elwood Shannon (Ap– February 24, 2001) was an American mathematician, electrical engineer, computer scientist and cryptographer known as the "father of information theory". I used a stamp from MFT’s Anything But Basic Birthday Sentiments. I will say, use this stuff outside! It worked though, no more powders rubbing off! I grabbed the Krylon UV Resistant spray that Jennifer McQuire linked too in a recent blog post. Powder was ending up on everything! I ruined two stamped panels because I was storing them in a stack with some watercolor panels. I tend to make a bunch of panels at once, then use them as needed. It’s become more and more obvious to me that the powders rub off cardstock, especially in concentrated spots. If you’ve been around for a bit, you know I love powdered watercolors (Nuvo Shimmer Powders or Brusho Crystals). This is a new step for me, but I feel it’s long overdue. I did spray the watercolor panel with a fixative before I assembled the card. Then I added the watercolor panel to a Neenah card base with fun foam and Scor Tape. I used liquid adhesive to add the Celebrate as well as the sentiment strip. Oh, the fishtail sentiment strips shape is from Concord & 9th’s discontinued Monogram Ampersand set. The happy birthday is from Concord and 9th’s So Happy For You, stamped on Gina K Designs Blue Raspberry cardstock with Versamark and embossed with more Wow. I also cut it three more times from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock, and layered them together with liquid adhesive for dimension. So many heart eyes for this card!Īnyway, I used MFT’s Celerbrate die to die cut the Holo cardstock. These pictures don’t even due the Holo cardstock or the shimmer powder justice. I set the panel aside to dry and waited for the Tonic Holo cardstock to arrive (it was worth it). Next I added Blue Blitz Nuvo Shimmer Powder and sprayed with water. I started out by stamping Simon Says Stamp’s Rebecca Lace background stamp on a panel of Distress Watercolor cardstock with Versamark ink, then heat embossing with Wow Opaque White Detail powder. That’s ok, I made a clever stamp alteration for inside the card, and I sent her a sneak peek. Two, I wanted to use the Tonic Studios Holo cardstock, which didn’t arrive until the 21st. One, I wanted to spray the panel with a fixative, and Amazon could not deliver in time. Unfortunately I am giving it to her late. Our birthday was the 22nd, and this is the card I made for my sister. I believe I’ve mentioned this before I’m a twin. There is another purpose for today’s card. This week the theme is Party Time, and the product feature is Simon Says Stamp. Today I am popping on to share the card I made for this week’s Simon Says Stamps Wednesday Challenge. If you find yourself alone today, or are struggling, please know you are not alone. Merry Christmas!!! I hope you are having a fabulous day with family and friends.
